October Dan Grading, AGM, and Training

Updated: Oct 13

Saturday 4th October saw the second and final Dan grading of the year as well as AGM and Grading Scoring Feedback Training.

Dan Grading:

The candidates were from across both of the CFTS areas and had 4 shodan and 1 nidan candidate. Karl and Michelle of Kempston, Charlie of Brickhill, Tim of Newport Pagnell and Lewis of Bletchley arrived at the Kempston dojo for a test of their physical skills and understanding of karate.

Whilst we can’t divulge too much of what they did, they all performed to a very high standard and after 3 hours they were given their result. All 5 candidates were successful and the relief on their faces was clear to see. A big thank you to the Dan grades who came to assist in the kumite and to the panel for their time on the day and in the build up to the grading itself.

AGM:

Once the grading was over, the other CFTS Dan grades arrived for the AGM and training, not forgetting lunch too!

The AGM included a review of last years minutes and the last 12 months, courses for 2026, competition day and Dan grade training sessions. Throughout the meeting there was good discussion and plenty for the Instructors Committee to go away and discuss at their next meeting.

Grading Scoring and Feedback Training:

To finish the day, Sensei Dan Young took the Dan grades through how gradings work, scoring sheets, things to look for in the 3 areas of a kyu grading, SEN needs and feedback. For some this is still relatively new and something they may not have done before. This training was to give people the confidence to sit on a panel and give an understanding of how/why we do things in our gradings. Slides were given out and certificates given to the club instructors to hand out in the dojo.

On behalf of the Instructors Committee, thank you all for attending, your opinions and ideas are invaluable to us in the successful running of our federation.
