Competition Day 2009

Bletchley Leisure Centre once again hosted our annual competition day.

It which was well attended by a large number of our students who appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day. Many thanks must go to all who participated in whatever way to help make the day such a success.

The day began at 9am with the black belts turning up early to prepare the areas and organise the day. Sensei McClagish gave an opening address welcoming everyone and giving a few words of wisdom and encouragement to many who were participating for the first time.

The competition commenced with kata for the youngest and lowest grades moving on throughout the day to the dan grades.

After kata came the exciting freestyle competition eliminations. It is worthy of note to mention here that our first aider Jo, who needs thanking for giving up her valuable time, had virtually nothing to do all day. Well done to all who participated what excellent control you displayed.

After lunch we progressed on to the finals which were of a very good standard with some excellent kata and budo-spirit in the freestyle.

The day’s climax was once again the team challenge between Milton Keynes clubs and those from the Bedford Area.

After five fights it was, as last year, tied at two and a half fights each so on to extra time. Each team sent out a fighter again. After much tension, excitement and cheering Bedford became this year's winners, beating Milton Keynes by one point.

Well done to both teams, but particularly Bedford area clubs; a great advert for competition karate.

Congratulations also to Chris Winter who was awarded the Karateka of the day.

Whether competing, judging, refereeing or simply cheering the students on, you all played your part in making the day a roaring success.

Thankyou

Sensei Kidby
