I began training in January 1985 with the Shotokan Karate Association under Sensei Roy Bantan and chief instructor Sensei Mick Randall. I trained regularly and in 1990 was awarded my shodan black belt.

During my years as a kyu grade and dan grade I have attended numerous courses with different associations and a range of senior karateka, all of which have been very beneficial. One of the most enjoyable was a week long kata course with the KUGB when I was a green belt.

I joined CFTS in 2002, and train in Kempston under Sensei Kidby. I am currently a nidan, and having completed the EKGB instructor qualification programme I am in the process of opening a club in mid Bedfordshire.

My favourite kata is Nijushiho - partly because I was taught it personally by an Australian national champion while in Australia in 1987 training with the KUA.
