  • Karate begins and ends with respect and courtesy

  • There is no first attack in karate

  • Karate supports righteousness

  • Know yourself first, then others

  • The art of the mind is more important than the technique

  • Free your mind

  • Karate is not just for the dojo

  • The training of karate takes a lifetime

  • Karate is like hot water, it cools down if you do not keep heating it

  • Do not think of winning, rather think of not losing

  • Transform yourself according to your opponent

  • The outcome of the fight depends upon the manoeuvre

  • Imagine one's arms and legs as swords

  • Once you leave home there are a million enemies

  • Postures are for the beginner, later they are natural positions

  • Perform the Kata correctly, the real fight is another matter

  • Do not forget to control the power and speed of a technique

  • Always be good at the application of all you learn

  • Apply the way of Karate to all things. Therein lies its beauty
