9th Kyu - Red Belt

Kihon

  • 10x Choku-zuki (or Kara-zuki) in Shizentai - punching from yoi stance

  • 5x Gyaku-zuki (reverse punch/push) in Zenkutsu dachi - left stance only

  • 5x Oi-Zuki (stepping punch) in Zenkutsu dachi, turn and back

  • 5x Age-Uke (upper rising block) in Zenkutsu dachi, turn and back

  • 5x Uchi-Uke (inside block) in Zenkutsu dachi, turn and back

  • 5x Soto-Uke (outside block) in Zenkutsu dachi, turn and back

  • 5x Mae-Geri (front snap kick) in Zenkutsu dachi, turn and back

  • 3x Yoko-Geri - Keage (side snap kick) in Kiba dachi, turn and back

  • 3x Yoko-Geri - Kekomi (side thrust kick) in Kiba dachi, turn and back

Kumite

Gohon Kumite - Jodan (5 attack sparring, Jodan - upper level - only, to count)

Gohon Kumite - Chudan (5 attack sparring, Chudan - lower level - only, to count)

Kata

Taikyo-ku-Shodan - full kata, no count

This syllabus is intended as a guide only and to assist with personal training. In a grading, the order of the techniques may be changed as may the combinations themselves.

Any kata and kumite from any previous grading should be expected to be performed, thus ensuring continued practice.

 

Remember that the attitude, etiquette, manners and, above all, the spirit displayed by the student whilst grading is as important as the techniques and combinations themselves.
